The problem disappears if I use Embedded server instead of stand-alone FB.
To reproduce the issue I am having:
Using Windows 7 Ultimate,
- Install Windows Virtual PC 2007 XP Mode.
For the XP VM
- Install .NET framework 3.5 SP1 and its update.
- Install Firebird 2.5 RC.
- I tried first by just copying FB client to the app dir on the VM, then
full install in the GAC (same result).
- Copy the database to a directory local to the XP VM (I tried both an alias
and the full DB path).
- Write a simple Winforms App that uses previously quoted code to connect to
the database.
- Copy the .exe and the config file to the XP VM and run it.
- Once an attempt is made to open the connection, I get the previously
mention exception.
I am not sure of what exactly happens here and whether it is a side effect
of using the VM (which probably is), I have no access to an XP machine to
try on.

Thanks!
