The debug version seems to be a very good options.
Bear in mind that embedded Firebird works fine.

If you run the application outside WM is it OK? Will it be possible to
get access to this box (I'm probably not able to get this environment
working as I'm using VMWare and this will end up in fireball of
death)?
Or I can prepare you debug version of NETProvider with logging and
you'll try to run it and send me the data. I'll see, hopefully, what's
wrong.
