We are pretty sure that extensions will be able to plug in to the per- panel enable/disable feature in 1.4. The reverse, where an extension controls the activation of pages should also be possible, both at a low level by changes to page annotations and at the Firebug level by responding to Firebug events. We have less confidence about this since no extension has tried it. But yes, in general we want to support extensions that implement different activation models (once we get the default to work.....)
