Ooh! Do you have expertise here? Many of us have been trying to drill these points home but (speaking for myself, anyway) don't have any formal training or experience in UX design, so we don't have the vocabulary. (I've been reduced to stomping my feet and shouting "IT'S LIKE AN IM CLIENT, DAMMIT!" :-) ) > 1. The Off button > It's really really bad usability to put a new button where the [X] > button used to be. > Users are used to click the X button to close the panel, not switching > it off. Ugh. Yeah, we've already had a few long arguments about the conflation of visibility and activation. As you'll see if you scan the archives, JJB's position is "the close button means quit for, like, every other application." > 2. Blacklist > "When you push the Firebug Off button, the selected Firefox tab has > its activation URI added to the blacklist." > > Now, why on earth would you do that? > Just because I turn Firebug of, doesn't mean I want to blaclist the > website. It also makes the argument that the current arrangement is consistent with other UIs rather specious - other UIs don't permanently record preferences behind your back based on when you close a window. > And yes, I've clicked the OFF button several times already to > close the panel. Allow me to preempt JJB's retort: You should learn to use the bug icon every time instead. (In other words, please adapt your behavior to my design, kthxbai.) > So my question is, where do I find this list? You don't. *grmbl* > 3. Menu placements > 4. The close button is the minimize button or the bug icon. Also 2 + 2 = 5, chocolate rations are up, and we've always been at war with Eastasia. *grrr* > 5. It's right next to the blacklist. ~:-| > You must try to stay as consistant as possible. If you in 1.5 yet > again choose to move around on things, I might have to find a new > tool to debug my site. I hope to $DEITY they *do* move things around in 1.5, but only after more carefully considering the user base and principles of good design. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Firebug" group.
