I got it working by waving the following dead cat....
my symptoms were (win 2000, FF 3.6, new profile)
nothing in error console
firefox menu tools>firebug had no submenu
context menu> inspect element did nothing
firebug on status bar did nothing when clickedbut showed menu on right
click
right click > open firebug in new window - opened new window which was
basically empty and broken but
showed view menu
I turned on and off all the various menu options in view>options -
this may have caused something missing to be written to config
after doing this, the firebug pane at browser bottom would open, but
basically was empty
once the pane would open, I did the usual thing I have to do to get
css styles working:
in xpti.dat, change
inIDOMUtils,{ffffd059-13d1-4ef7-acb1-91188c6e31dd},2,-1,1
to
inIDOMUtils,{78fd16c2-bdfb-4b1d-8738-d536d0a8f430},0,-1,1
save that, quit firefox, restart and yay
note - I had tried the xpti.dat change before the bottom pane began
working with no luck
jumping through these hoops with an old profile (which only had 1
other add-on - google toolbar anyhow) also worked.
