open firefox, do not go near firebug at this time
click file> New Window (you no whave a second window with FF loaded. enter
any URL
do you see the BACK arrow?
right click on the page, if the Back option available (not grayed out), is
the Reload option available.
With Firebug 1.8 the BACK arrow has gone, as well as the back and Reload
options

this is without going anywhere Firebug. as I said going back a version has
removed the problems
