Linux Firewall

I'll write a firewall based on Linux from the beginning.But Linux is a new
OS for me,especially the firewall implemented for Linux.Can someone do me a
favor to tell me what Linux has done in firewall,its mechanism,and the
resources of the Linux firewall?By the way,has someone in this list done
this before,and can you give me some information?
