A few years ago this was easy, all you had to do was issue the `whois`
command followed by the IP address or domain name.  Then Network
Solutions was awarded the Internic contract and nothing has been easy
since.  Aside from charging $50 (now $35) per year for a service that
costs them $7/year to provide Network Solution delegated off
responsibility for everything they could.  Reverse DNS resolution was
given to ARIN, RIPE, APNIC and several dozen smaller agencies.  Forward
resolution too was doled out until NSI now manages only .com, .org, and
.net.  Worse still they've recently redirected all traffic for internic.net
to their own commercial website networksolutions.com.  It is a textbook
case of corruption from a government sponsored monopoly.
