Here are two options that you can use:

Option 1:
If you can uninstall the latest SP, do so to fall back to SP1 or SP3, 
whichever you had before SP5.
Then reapply the SP starting with SP3 (because it is the safest) and work 
your way up to SP5 if that is what you want.

Option 2:
At this point do nothing  else, but reinstall the OS (NT). By reinstall I 
meant UPGRADE. I stress on the word UPGRADE. Do not do a fresh installation 
if your don't what to complicate your life. Use one of the methods 
recommanded by MS (disks or CD-Rom install) During the installation process, 
setup will detect the presence of a copy of NT and will give you the option 
to upgrade. Press Enter to upgrade.

By upgrading, you WILL NOT loose any previous configuration, but the default 
service pack (SP1) will be installed.
Immediately following the installation, apply the SP of your choice. DO NOT 
be tempted to try anything until you have applied the SP.
