As it is mentioned in the "Building Internet Firewalls" book by Bret
Chapman and Elizabeth Zwicky, burning a golden copy of your finely tuned
operating system is really really recommended.

Developing a methodology and architecture regarding how you maintain your
system configurations and the method in which you get the file from the
system to a place that is relatively secure should not be discussed. Since
once a laymen knows a little bit more about where you store or discuss
"Hey, everybody I have a TripWire product, blah, blah), just gave away
another piece of information regarding your network and how you possibly
maintain the tripwire database.

Be a little bit more paranoid, since the security of your organization can
be vulnerable from a number of standpoints..

"Resistance is Futile" "Your network will be assimiliated" - :)

Since the floppy drive on my Solaris system has resolutely refused to
cooperate any more, I am looking at another procedure for keeping my
tripwire database files secure. I could mount a separate disk read-only
I suppose, but it seems a waste for a file the size of a few Kilobytes.

I could look at burning it on to a CD, but then every time I update the
file, I have to create a new one.

How do other people do this?

Cheers,
Lyn
