Wrong. Most harddisks today have a special jumper. If set, the disk is 
read-only and there is nothing you can do except physically remove it. If 
you take a cabled jumper and connect it to the key lock at the PCs front, 
you can just change the state with the key.

Anyway I would not recommend this just for the purpose of one small 
Tripwire database ;-)
