However, an individual's MP3 server (on _your_ network), as opposed
to a server serving public domain MP3's, may be serving up pirated
music, subject to copyright. Now you're in the same boat as the
software pirates, and subject to litigation and possible monetary
reparations. This "great service" is now taking money out of the
pockets of artists who have a right to compensation for their
product. (I'm a musician, too.) I agree it is a good idea, but with
the software being both a client and a server, it easily allows
(almost promotes) this piracy.
Unless you're in the IT department of a company in the music
business, I'd say it is not time- or cost-effective to have the
network or security team dealing with this issue at a technical
level. I agree with previous posters on what to do about it: give
this one to HR.
