This is a really hard question to answer, especially when I work for one of
them.
It really depends on your definition of a personal firewall/IDS product.
The definition has been discussed in previous posts, Please refer to the
Firewalls Mailing archive, since this discussion has been broached many
times before.
It really comes down a simple question: How much is one willing to spend
to protect their Home from "would be" intruders from getting in.
One could go the Fort Knox approach, spends lots of money, hire a whole
bunch of soldiers, provide them with enough firearms to take out a whole
city block and then some and provide them with food so that they don't
starve to death or revolt against you. Or one could go the fake dog
approach, if someone turns the knob in your house, the would be intruder
will hear a ferocious dog barking everytime they touch something that has
been wired to that effect.
