to_the_list,,,
sorry about the spam, but it justs irks me to see when someone asks a
question and get the 'windbag' treatment. just answer the damn question!!!
Oscar,
it seems our colleague, Palitha, is a bit of a 'blowhard'
sortta' long winded ain't he/she ????...
it just goes to prove the more initials ya'got after your name
the longer it takes to say it.
now...
the answers to your question...
true the 10.0.0.0/8 is a classfully an "A", but who cares ??
the interface you are describing is using an address
10.9.2.3, that is part of a subnet spanning 10.9.2.0
thru 10.9.2.255.
the /255.255.255.0 mask indicates that the subnet size is that of a
class "C".
also be careful when you hear someone say that the rfc1918
( suggest you read it as it would be helpful in this area) addresses are not
routable ..
THEY ARE!!!!
...it industry (read: cisco) standard
to block these on the basis that we all agree to use them on internal nets
only...the 127.0.0.0 net IS not routable as it used for network loopback
routines on your localhost boxen.
you will be fine if you use the 10.0.0.0 net this way.
also if you have a large intranet this give you massive amounts of
address space to use for enterprise expansion.
Palitha,
dont recite something you read in a book...give the person a real world
practical answer. it s/be apparent he does not need a white paper..why would
some worry about depleting rfc1918 space...
using a class 'a' or 'c' subnet with a 24 bit boundary is identical.
what was your point???
