Rob,

#From what I 'hear' everyone seems to go the
#hardware based firewall route - with Cisco
#having the most well respected name (at least
#for marketing purposes).

     Please do not buy a firewall based on how good the marketing is. I,
personally, have not seen a firewall called a hardware firewall that is as
good as some of the software firewalls. First, decide what level of
security your site needs. Cisco IOS running their firewall feature set or
Cisco PIX may fulfill all of your requirements but they are not the most
secure firewalls in the marketplace. I have worked with the PIX a little
and I would probably try the IOS firewall instead of using the PIX again.
For the price you can't beat IPFW on FreeBSD except maybe IPFilter on
OpenBSD=)

Regards,
Jeffery Gieser
