Brenno,

#I was talking about an OS like solaris, linux or NT
#An OS where software firewalls run on...
#An OS where a hardware based firewall runs on isn't
#like the same as an OS that runs on a SUN.

#You must do a lot more effort on securing Solaris
#then on an OS that runs on a PIX or Nokia.

What if I have a firewall like the Sidewinder or Cyberguard running on
a trusted operating system. They have already been secured for me so I
don't have to go through the effort of fixing security issues in the
underlying OS. Obviously, they are still software firewalls but by that
definition I could argue that they are hardware firewalls. I have yet to
see a hardware firewall. From what I have seen pretty much everything
called a hardware firewall is just a firewall that comes pre-installed with
an OS.

Regards,
Jeffery Gieser
