Yes, the cost of an unmanaged switch is rapidly approaching the cost
of a dumb hub...if anyone makes such a beast these days.... I cannot
recall seeing ads for new hubs recently but I may just not be paying
attention...

I recently bought a nortel 70-24t switch for US$250, 24 ports of
10/100 autosense half/full-duplex.  Getting it to Aus was a real bitch
but worth it - the thing performed like a champ at our last LAN party,
one of the most demanding applications I can think of ;-)
