$730 on the Web site for the switch, $120 ea for 16 port SMC hubs-
Figure around $1200 for a 1605, and its' a $500 difference.  If you
amortize your hardware costs over three years it's hard to see the
difference.  Obviously I'm not including maintenance and somewhere you'll
need an extra router or port- 2600s are around $2000 with dual ethers and
less than $2600 with dual 10/100s.  That extra $1400 gets the ability to
go with another 10/100 or 1 or 4 10bT ports in the future at just the cost
of a module (no idea on module costs and it seems my CCO login expired.)

Anyway, the point is that you can gain pretty good seperation with pretty
little dollars (I picked the first site I found on the Web, but Cisco's
discount levels apply for all their product lines, and those are likely
list prices- but they include IP IOS.)  Obviously, "roll your own" routers
with $300 PCs make it more attractive (and give you a spare Quake server.)
