Can't say where these guys got their information but I do have some first
hand knowledge of Hotmail.  When Microsoft bought Hotmail it was using BSD
for the front end.  Microsoft replaced or at least is in the process of
replacing the BSD systems with NT and IIS front ends.  I know there are
multiple hosting sites for Hotmail.  The one I use has this signature <!--
V: WIN2K 09.04.15.0018 i --> for the front end boxes.
