I have created a help branch for my repository on gitorious that shows the
changes that I proposed:

Notice that the patches are simple atomic changes that each fix one thing.
They also don't add any options that would add complexity, so hopefully
they aren't as controversial.
Don't feel that you need to base your changes on mine. If you don't fix the
issues addressed in the patches then I will rebase them on your changes
after they are accepted.
