This message is from: Cynthia_Madden/OAA/UNO/[EMAIL PROTECTED] How well I remember the first time I saw a Fjord (don't we all). It was in 1989 when I went to watch a carraige show near Minneapolis (Prairie Home? Carriage Show) . There was a Fjord horse at the show. I don't know who was showing her, but I do know that I saw her and said to myself, "I don't know what kind of horse that is, but some day I am going to have one." I did talk to her owners and found out she was a Norwegian Fjord and when I came home I told Steve all about her and what a totally terrific animal she was.
One month later, we were at the state fair and stapled on the wall outside the show office was a business card advertising Fjords! The place was only 20 miles north of Omaha! It turned out to be Bill Steavenson (owner then of Grabbson). He had Grabbson and four mares that he bred every year. At that time, all his horses went east to Bauer's or west to New Mexico. Bill was also a great friend of Harold Jacobsen. We did go visit and he had four beautiful weanlings for sale. I was so dissapointed that they were just too expensive for me to afford. Five years later when we were driving in the area of Steavenson's farm, we just dropped in. Bill had four yearlings and three two-year olds on hand. He had been so busy with his business that he hadn't even bred his mares that year. I had hoped that maybe I could now afford a weanling. Bill really wanted to find his Fjords homes. At that time, Grabbson was half-owned and is now totally owned by Tim Hamlett in Iowa. I had my choice of yearlings and two year olds at a price that was too good to be true. I was at the bank the next day. On my birthday, Tank came home with us. Bill has since died and his horses dispersed. The mares went to Tim. Torden, his last horse sent to him by Harold, is now owned by Steve & Amy While, who along with us, comprise the Omaha Fjord Horse Club. Cynthia Madden Omaha, Nebraska USA email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
