FMS is limited insofar as serverside scripts must be written in
a dialect of ActionScript that resembles AS1. You might not
even consider that a limitation, as it is quite functional and
scripts don't have to be too big most of the time, just don't
expect a rich OOP language to work with.

The other thing that should be mentioned here is that FCS didn't play well with other servers (may have changed in FMS, I haven't upgraded yet). There are ways to interact with other servers, like databases and web servers, but none of them are easy or convenient. So the chat server is effectively in a sandbox, which may or may not matter at all for your purpose.
