Basic list etiquette: reply only to the "Reply-to:" address. I didn't know that. I apologize!!!
You are assuming that the location has "404.html" in it, that is not correct. The location is the location that you entered in the browser, the location that did not exist. This doesn't make sence to me. When I enter a wrong address, the .htaccess reroutes me to the 404.html correctly. For the base element, read up on it in your local html reference. It is so simple that I can't be bothered explaining it in detail. Simple to one is sometimes a big problem for another. But pointing me to the html reference and BASE did the trick!!
