I don't really think that's the right comparison, though. AS3 is a lot more like Java and C# than C++ is, actually. The core syntax is very similar across all four of those languages, of course, but the way you approach problems in AS3, Java and C# is different from how you approach them in C++ in many ways - primarily because you don't manage memory directly in the first three, I think. Nowadays, there really aren't that many people working in C++ directly in the enterprise. Apple doesn't need to be "the king", they just want to have complete control of their niche.
