I'm experimenting with running two instances of fldigi, one for Tx/Rx
and one for monitoring, using the PC's integrated sound for the primary
instance and a cheap no-name USB sound device for the other.

The processor load of the instance using the on-board sound is about
12%, the processor load of the USB one is about 75%.

Swapping the sound devices between fldigi instances shows that the USB
device is the problem.

Is this to be expected? Is it worth trying other USB sound devices or
should I get a PCI card instead?

3.13BX, Portaudio, Xubuntu 9.10.
