lsusb shows "ID 1130:F211 Tenx Technology Inc audio headset" The IC package has some surface damage so I can't read the number for sure even with a microscope. Possibly JP6811SB48Q but the J might be a T and the 8 might be a 9. There is a 12MHz xtal. > What mode? Which digimode, you mean? That prompted me to start tinkering randomly, something I resort to when I don't have a clue what's going on. The above problems were with Portaudio selected (the system doesn't have Pulseaudio installed). I tried selecting OSS and the CPU load dropped to roughly the same as the on-board card. Everything now works as expected, total CPU load of two fldigi instances about 20%. So, problem solved, but I don't understand why.
