What distro is this?
Is a binary of FLTK already installed into /usr?
If so, why not rebuild the existing binary with the needed options,
likely --enable-shared and --enable-xft?
Otherwise do you see the locally built FLTK stuff in /usr/local?
I'm reluctant to tell you to change the path to include /usr/local,
though you can specify that at compile time to point to your locally
built FLTK binaries.
What's in there already?
Look for an existing binary. If it's there, consider rebuilding it with
the proper compile time switches and doing an upgrade over the existing
package.
