They had a last minute upgrade of several packages. In their rush they broke several things, one of which was the log on screen. I could no longer log in. Fixed it twice, then the whole thing went belly up. Being the intelligent person I am, I simply installed 10.04, so I'm back to Ubuntu. May be a long while before I try Debian again. Luckily everything thing important was backed up.
