    are 2 indications of the center of the signal.

Nothing. I am just suggesting that the large frequency display in the upper-left-hand corner of the fldigi frame is not of much use when displaying VFO frequency. It is duplicate information.
It is NOT JUST a display. It is a control entry and it is designed mimic what occurs at the transceiver when the user moves the vfo dial. The transceiver vfo dial, the frequency entry control in flrig and the frequency entry control in fldigi all annunciate the same data value. The only time it does not is in CW mode on some transceivers like the K3.
Having it display the center of the emitted signal is far more useful. The information at the top of the waterfall is quite useful but does not display the frequency to 1Hz resolution. The QSO Freq field has the information one needs but that would be better displayed in the main frequency display.
BTW this has been the modus operandi for as long as fldigi has been a public application. It is understood my 99.99% of the user base. I do not intend to change it, but you are free to make whatever change suits your needs and create a separately maintained branch of the code.
