What this points out is that we need a better system that is far more automated. Surprisingly, there are very few things that can be done with a packet-based system that cannot be done with a file-transfer system given you can accept a little bit of latency. I refer you to the uucp system if you don't believe what I say. Most unix users forget just how well uucp actually worked as long as you weren't looking for instant feedback, e.g. command-line request/response.
