You're probably right.
  However, due to various NDAs and etc...  I don't think a book can 
actually "go to press" until the product is officially released.
  That is why their is a 30-60 day delay before the books start hitting the 
shelves.

  ( Since Flex 2 betas were available for free on Labs, traditional NDA 
issues regarding betas may not apply; however since the publisher wants to 
be 'right' and betas are subject to change it is unlikely they'll go to 
press before a gold release of the software )
