I suppose, I cannot speak on this issue regarding other technologies. With CF5, CFMX, and CFMX7 the books were usually published 30-60 days after the product release.
The NDAs I agreed to to prevented me from distributing information on the topic. In my version of the world, sending a book full of NDA information to a print shop (AKA third party vendor) is a distribution of the information, and would be a violation. Of course, this is just one example. I'm sure that other companies / technologies have different NDA / beta requirements.
