i use a mac, but alongside this i develop in windows using vmware, the advantages of vm'ing is really what i am after, some people use ubuntu and a vm others use pc in our team. the vm is the key, new developer joins, here you go a complete setup environment. my environment gets a bit slow after installing a bunch of crap for the last project, revert to snapshot.of course several gig of memory is the needed here.
