(PLUG) As far as I know there is only one reportwriter by Farata Systems
that is written in Flex at this time and it is available @ myflex.org. There
should be some demos there as well as user manual and trial versions. It has
both developers version ( Eclipse plugin that allows you to layout and
compile/preview report without need to go to the application ) and "server"
version (you  provide SQL and initial editing, publish to DB, end-user can
modify it any way they want). PDF is automatic, but requires LCDS license
(XDP option), Excel export is built-in. Personally, the best way to see if
it matches your needs is to contact the company for specific question as
features are being added daily and there are tons of side projects (OLAP,
DataForms, etc.) that fall in domain of business application tooling
