I'm not sure what is going on, but, most of Flex's component can be read by JAWS. You must have JAWS version 6.10.1006 or later. For more info about accessibility in Flex, check out:

The buttons have all the usual accessibility tags on them (name, tabEnabled, tabIndex) but the screen reader is not reading them out.
