I have a computer science degree, and [believe it or not] I think I use the information I learned in college every day. It gave me a great grounding for what I do today.
My college curriculum was focused on programming concepts, whereas I've spoken to many who were taught a specific language. I'm easily able to transfer my skills from one language to another. I've spoken to a lot of programmers who seem incapable of that. If you can find a curriculum that gives a good mix of concepts and practical application, I strongly recommend it. I also have to disagree with Doug on one point. As a business owner I care about much more than solid code samples. Eagerness to learn, willingness to make mistakes, ability to communicate, enthusiasm about what we do, and personality fit would all weigh more heavily than code samples.
