Thanks for the reply.

I installed everything again on a spare blank drive and everything
works as it should. That development is both encouraging and
discouraging at the same time. 

In short, I think the easiest thing for me to do is to back up all of
my files from the original drive, re-image it, and start installing
everything all over again. All fresh and new. There goes about six
hours of my day tomorrow. I'm on about my 10th reinstallation of Flex
and CF at this point and I must have stray files all over the place on
the disk. I'll never find all of them again. 

People who milk cows for a living have a much, much different set of
problems, huh? 

Not looking forward to doing this -- not at all.
