Actually, DG does not use PopUpManager. The editor is just a child that overlays the cells. I actually expected you to have focus/event issues with the popup solution. In a ComboBox situation, the popup'd dropdown never gets focus. Once the DG loses focus, the editing is closed.

The tween I'm talking about is the animation of the TextArea expanding beyond the renderer, much like the animation for the List of the ComboBox. When the user starts editing a row and the itemRenderer is called, I start a tween to expand the TextArea out of the renderer. This is exactly how a ComboBox works, so I just snacked the appropriate logic from there and put it into a custom item editor.
