I have an Astron SS-30M and the floating spurs/hash is primarily from a 
hardware hack in the supply to generate voltage for the meter 
illumination. If you disconnect the wire at the diode/capacitor junction 
that feeds the panel lights, you will notice a very significant 
reduction in the spurs/hash. I did some Internet research looking for a 
fix to the RFI and found this link:

The fellow who posted this identified the source of the problem. I can 
see my meters just fine without illumination, so I disconnected the 
meter light wire. (He customized his unit with LEDs). The change in RFI 
was very noticeable. I also located a SS-30 schematic, but no SS-30M 
schematic. After looking at the hack for the meter illumination, I'm not 
surprise a schematic does not exist. I marked up a SS-30M schematic to 
add the HW hack components the best I could.

When I did this research, many stated that they returned their metered 
units for the non-metered units and the RFI went away.
