It is too bad analog power supplies cannot be made as lightweight as switching
supplies for similar current capability. As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I
have two Astron switching supplies (with metering) and they generate what I
call a "floating spur" that goes back and forth across my passband.

A 50 amp analog supply must weigh a ton...I have a 35 amp unit that I use with
my Flex-5000 that is pretty hard on my back...fortunately, I do not have to
move it around very often!

When I get a chance, I am going to experiment with removing the connection to
the meter backlighting on the Astron supplies (as suggested by Bill Bordy,
NJ1H) to see if that makes enough difference to put them back into service.

I just noticed that this thread is on the FlexEdge list rather than the Yahoo
and regular FlexRadio lists...we should get back into discussions on the issues
associated with alpha/beta software.

I second the motion. I have an Astron VRM-50M linear that is as quiet as a
mouse and an Samlex switcher that broadcasts enough hash to be heard on
Mars.

The proportions and relations of things are just as much facts as the things
themselves.
