I'm not a software guy so pardon me if this is a stupid question. On my
Yaesu FT-990 and pretty much every other HF rig I've ever used when you turn
on the noise blanker it causes splatter and overload if there are any
strong signals anywhere close. I've noticed the same thing on my Flex 1500.

Here's my question. Since the NB is really done in software on the Flex, is
there a way to have a noise blanker (NB3 maybe?) that ONLY works inside the
passband of the filter? If it was possible to do this maybe it would
eliminate the noise (like my perpetual powerline noise) inside the filter's
passband but not be affected by the strong signals outside of the passband.

On the upside, I probably haven't turned on the Yaesu more than 5 or 6 times
in the 3 months I've owned my little Flex. I think I should have saved my
pennies and sprung for the 3000 instead of the 1500! I built a little
homebrew amp to get about 35w out for those times when 5w doesn't quite cut
it so that gets me by.

The NB thing is just an idea, if it's a very bad one just ignore this post!
