Guys,
I had my dream rig in the Flex 5K but an unfortunate family finacial
emergency forced me sell it. I was without any radio at all for awhile
but then enough good fortune smiled on me that I was able to afford a
1500. I am so thankful to Flex for the 1500 because it allows me to
experience the joy of Flex SDR still! I'm spolied, there is no other
way to "play radio" for me anymore than SDR, a panadapter and point and
click tuning! Everything else has just lost it's appeal.

Lee,
I think that upgrade will have to wait until my old 1992 model FT-990 dies
but I'm not nearly as worried about replacing it now as I used to be. The
990 has one of the quietest receivers I've ever heard, that's why I bought
it and it still compares favorably with the current crop of rigs. Well, at
least until now with the Flex and the 2.0.22 PSDR. I was holding out for
better software since I'm almost 100% CW, a couple of weeks after they
released the new version I sprung for the 1500 and haven't looked back.
I've used the little Softrocks for a couple of years so it gave me a head
start on SDR. I've been having a blast with the little 1500, I was worried
that I might not be happy with it. Now that I know I am, hindsight is 20-20
but I should have moved up. I just dare my 990 to die now!

Kerry,
No, No, No, you should have saved a bit longer and gotten the 5000A. And
if you upgrade that you are simply going to be the happiest guy on
earth---just like me! You just never run out of things you want to try!

Subject: [FlexEdge] Noise Blanker Question
On the upside, I probably haven't turned on the Yaesu more than 5 or 6
times
in the 3 months I've owned my little Flex. I think I should have saved my
pennies and sprung for the 3000 instead of the 1500! I built a little
homebrew amp to get about 35w out for those times when 5w doesn't quite
cut
it so that gets me by.
The NB thing is just an idea, if it's a very bad one just ignore this
post!
