- 8 eggs - 2/3 cup sugar - 1 quart whole milk - 1 pint heavy cream - 2 cups good bourbon or (better yet) sour mash whiskey - 2 teaspoons freshly grated nutmeg - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger - Sea salt if you separate the eggs.
Beat the eggs and strain them. Add the milk, cream, bourbon, nutmeg, vanilla, and ginger. Mix well and refrigerate for 24 hours. Yes, you have to wait that long. Serve in cups with additional grated nutmeg on top and, if you are adventuresome, just a tiny sprinkle of sea salt. Variations: You can separate the eggs and reserve the whites until you are ready to serve the nog, then beat them to soft peaks with a couple of tablespoons of sugar and gently fold into the nog. Top with grated nutmeg and a tiny sprinkle of sea salt. You can substitute dark rum or brandy but a good sour mash like Jack Daniels Black is best. Never heat it. Hot eggnog is an abomination, saith the Lord. On Mon, Dec 5, 2011 at 8:46 PM, Brian Lloyd <[email protected]> wrote: > > > On Mon, Dec 5, 2011 at 5:38 PM, William H.
