Erik,
What are you seeing (that I'm not) that would lead you to believe that
metakit has anything to with this problem? There is no relationship
at all between metakit and the property system. Properties are ***not***
kept in a metakit database for instance.

fgSetDefaults() { } is where you reported the crash (in the first call
to fgSetDouble();
If you could narrow down a bit more exactly where the globals->props
pointer is getting whacked, that would be helpful.
Note that I cannot reproduce this problem on any of my debian systems
here.
