In a C172, you can sense when the wheels are on the runway (*especially* if you touch down a couple of knots too fast) -- the whole plane vibrates, which isn't surprising considering the speed and the relative lack of suspension compared to a car. I don't know how much of it you can actually hear and how much you feel instead, but since we cannot shake the user's chair, the rumbling is a good idea. I have yet to hear a squeal on touchdown -- there's a bit of a boom and a jolt when I put the plane down firmly. > * Like the "hoo hoo HAH HAH HAH!" monkey sound used in movies, which > is really a bird of some sort.
