I'm very surprised that this is not a standard part of Mandrake,
because I've heard many people who like that distro.  If it's not,
perhaps your life would be easier if you switched to another distro,
because there must be many other things missing as well -- several
FlightGear developers use Debian, which is beautifully simple to
maintain and update but slightly harder to install than RedHat.  When
you read about a new program and want to try it, it's usually as easy
as

  apt-get install <whatever>
