Just looked at the OpenGC source and see your point. Have no idea who did that, but it shuts down the network interface. Changes to the FG socket code in May "broke" the control channel from the OpenGC FMS to FlightGear. Disappointed that my queries to the author of the change have gone unanswered. Guess that is one of the pitfalls of open-source development. Bottom line - neither program will work without some modifications and tailoring.
My cockpit sim is currently running with customized versions of the latest CVS copies of FG and OpenGC with Debian Linux connected over a LAN. If you're interested, be happy to send along info, tips, and fixes to get things running.
