Eric,

Compare the following two images side by side:

    http://www.flightgear.org/tmp/runway-lo.png
    http://www.flightgear.org/tmp/runway-hi.png

Especially look at the diagnal part of the numeral "2" and the notches
cut out of the sides of the "8". Also notice the additional fuzziness
at the tops and bottoms of the numbers in the lo res version. And,
overall, the "hi" image is much sharper.

You may not notice this as much when you are looking at the runway
from the ground, but you will definitely notice it from the air, and
will definitley notice the difference in all circumstances if you have
a high level of anisotropic texture filtering turned on (for
GeForce3/4 cards.) This makes the runway markings beautifully sharp
and virtually eliminates all the mipmap bluriness we see on lower end
cards.

I would be *very* disappointed if the hi res version of the runway
textures went away.

Regards,

Curt.
