In the process of doing the updates, I have found that the two chase views we had are now ***very*** different. There's a lag effect that is giving me serious vertigo and there's roll now as well which is compounding the vertigo.
Can the person who set this up (and I recall the thread but I cannot find it) create a --disable-lagged-chase-view option so that we can get back the old views when we want them. Early I suggested that whatever happens I'd like to be able to still use the old views.
Perhaps there is a way in the preferences.xml file to still use the old ones, which had their advantages in certain areas. I particularly liked the view where the view was horizontal in a fixed direction (changeable via the mouse). The heading was fixed and there was zero pitch. But I used the other one almost as much.
As it is now, I basically cannot fly flightgear --- vertigo is giving me a serious trouble. I'm going to be nauseous for the next two hours...+-
I give a lot of demos w/ flightgear and the past two external views worked well for that. The viewers could watch w/o getting sick ... e.g. all 90 students in my introduction to aerospace systems class last spring.
As a general comment, as flightgear moves ahead, I think it's important to keep past capability because sure enough one or many of the users will get used to certain features and become dependent on them ... like myself and those addictive views. ;)
