Are you saying that the lighting would then be adjustable based on view? You didn't infer that earlier. If so, I'll sit tight.
This means high contrast (low ambient) high specular and modest diffuse). Then we could change everything else relative to that. Changing the lighting to match the cockpit appearance and losing realism for the outside view doesn't help for that.
From my point of view, visability inside the cockpit is most important in aflight simulator. Messing with ambient lighting for the entire scene may not the best approach. It certainly doesn't address night illumintation. Again, if anyone has any suggestions on addressing cockpit lighting, I'd be very grateful.
I hadn't thought of that but it actually makes sense. The objects inside the cockpit (walls etc) all cast light back so they increase ambient light values.
This might require some work but will give a better result in the end.
